The 2016-17 edition of the CISAA golf tour came to its conclusion today with the playing of the final Championship tournaments. Championship action was played on the Homestead and the Middle 9’s at Westview Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario. Once again, like all tournaments prior to today throughout this season, members of the CISAA tour enjoyed another rain–free round of golf amongst competitors from other independent schools. Scoring conditions were perfect as the golfers played under sunny skies with little to no wind. Although playing conditions were favorable, scores ended up being a tad higher than expected as Westview certainly proved to be a true test for the Championship. Both the Homestead and Middle tracks offered plenty of challenging shots off the tee and tricky angles into guarded greens. The boys needed to be strategic off the deck in order place the ball in good position for each approach, and they needed to evaluate constant changes in elevation in order to manage their yardages. Patience, poise and execution were keys to success on this loop.

Continuing the established trend of quality results throughout the 2016-17 campaign, the team was once again very pleased to register competitive scores amongst the field.

Our Senior team of Jay Williams (IB2), Tom Reeve (IB2), Trung Tran (IB2), Justin Symons (IB1) and Gerry Mei (Y2) posted a combined score of 333, which translated to a 3rd place finish. It was a pleasure to watch Jay, Tom and Trung play in their final event as members of the UCC Varsity Golf Team. The coaches would like to thank them for their years of involvement and commitment and wish them continued enjoyment of the game moving forward.

The coaches are thrilled to report that our Junior team was crowned CISAA Champions! This group of young gentlemen capped off their dominant run all season long with a closing performance worthy of the title. Darius Vitug (FY), Ryan Moore (FY), Tucker McIntosh (FY), Jason Howe (FY) and Connor Munro (Y2) tallied a combined score of 320, which was 12 strokes clear of second place. A special mention goes out to Darius Vitug who posted the low score of the day in the Junior field (73, +1). The future of the program is very bright and the coaches are already looking forward to future success next season with this outstanding crop of players.

Although the CISAA golf season has wound down to a close, the silver lining is that each player’s individual season is on the verge of kicking into top gear. Following a summer filled with golf, the Blues will be reunite in preparation for OFSAA qualifiers once everyone returns to UCC in the Fall. The OFSAA Qualifier for CISAA takes place on September 26th from Shanty Bay Golf Club.

Well done Blues!
