The Blues started off their rainy Saturday morning with a tough semifinal game against a very strong Toronto French School team. TFS was the only team to defeat the Blues during the regular season, so they knew that they needed a strong game to punch their ticket to the final. They started strong and scored early on a break away effort right up the middle. Going into the second half the Blues worked on spreading the field. This created a number of good opportunities but a second goal proved elusive. The TFS team never gave up and challenged for the equalized. The Blues however where equal to the task and held their 1-0 lead to the end celebrating their win and berth in the final.
With only a short break and the weather staying cold and rainy, the Blues had to refocus and prepare for a final against the Crescent Coyotes. In their regular season game the Blues and Coyotes ended in the 0-0 draw. As it turned out with tremendous goalkeeping at both ends of the field, the game would come to a close of regulation play at exactly the same score. This set up a 5 minute extra time golden goal moment. The Blues wasted little time pressuring Crescent right off the opening kick off. They then pushed hard and almost scored only to have the ball cleared out of the 18 yard box. To their credit, they sent it right back into the 6 yard box when they were the recipients of a fortunate bounce that landed up in the Crescent net. While the final goal might not have been a textbook strike to the top corner, the Blues effort throughout the game and in extra time was well worthy of the win.
GO BLUES GO!!
