The U16 hockey team played two home games last week and is now on their holiday break.
On Monday December 4th, the Blues dropped a challenging 4-2 game to Crescent. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the intermission after 2 periods of play. The Blues began the third period with good energy, carrying play and generating a good share of scoring chances. Unfortunately we could not find the back of the net, and then momentum was stalled when Crescent scored on their first shot of the period. An empty net goal sealed the win for the visitors. Regardless of the result, disorganized play was a disappointing aspect of the game and the collective willpower between players and coaches quickly shifted towards areas of improvement.
The Blues responded with their best effort of the early season on Wednesday the 6th against St. Michael’s. Following a productive practice between games, the players were keen to play with the collective organization and focus that was lacking against Crescent. Dylan Meanchos was outstanding in net displaying confidence and poise when facing quality chances against. The Blues played with pride as they were able to dig themselves out of 1-0 and 2-1 deficits. A 10-minute stretch of dominant play in the second period could have led to more goals for yet their was quality goaltending at both ends of the ice. Overall this was a high-paced competitive hockey game which ended in a 2-2 tie. The players have turned a corner and have many positive aspects to build upon moving forward.
Our next action will come in mid-January at the St. Michael’s Junior Invitational Tournament (January 16-18).
Happy holidays to all families of the U16 Hockey Team!
