On an overcast and unusually warm autumn day, UCC took on their rivals at SMC in a one game play-off for a spot in Saturday’s final.  On a muddy and slippery pitch for both teams, skillful play was at a premium.  Slugging it out in the midfield was the key to the game and both teams needed time to find their grounding.  UCC opened up the scoring chances with Sam Pickersgill getting a clear shot on net but hitting the post and seeing the ball go out of bounds.  SMC pushed up the field and established some solid build up in midfield to cause some havoc, but the defence stood tall and kept them off the score sheet.

The second half was much like the first.  A lot of up and down play and battles in the midfield but no one could break the stalemate.  Once again, UCC created some good scoring chances and Sam Pickersgill picked up a rebound save and shot on an open net but this time hit the crossbar.  The goal was going to come, but we would have to wait until the extra time period where Zain Assaf slotted in the rebound given up by the goalie off a free kick.  The golden goal was due to complete hustle and heart and now we are in the finals on Saturday vs Crescent.

Great play by the keeper and defence to keep SMC at bay and off the scoreboard.  A little too close for comfort, but nonetheless a victory that gives us the opportunity to fight for the championship vs Crescent.

Thanks to all for their support and hope to see you all on Saturday morning
