UCC won by 156 runs (UCC 201 for 5, SAC 45 all out)

The Varsity Cricket team made a bold statement in their opening game, at home against St. Andrews College, with a comprehensive win. Batting first, with a modified batting order, UCC scored at a brisk rate despite losing a couple of early wickets. Debutant Tathagat Jaiswal made a breezy 34 from 33 balls, posting a lively stand of 52 with Matthew Jagdeo (17), before Josh van Marken (33 n.o.) and Faiz Khwaja (55 n.o. from only 27 balls) pushed the score past 200 – an imposing total in a 25-over game.

In reply, SAC showed attacking intent, but Lachlan Rigby (1 for 6) and Faiz Khwaja (2 for 5) bowled with impressive accuracy to reduce the visitors to 11 for 3.  Eight bowlers were used by UCC as they closed out the victory with a competent, if not flawless, fielding performance to dismiss SAC for 45.
