Varsity Badminton Finishes 2nd at CISAA Tournament

(May 24th) – The Varsity Badminton team competed in the CISAA Championship today at Markham’s Pan-Am Centre, which is a badminton specific facility boasting 14 courts. The day began well for UCC, with all five flights winning their first matches. The second round was tougher, with both 1st and 2nd singles players dropping their games. However, both doubles teams would advance comfortably and 3rd singles would also move forward on the championship side of the Read More

Varsity Badminton finishes regular season with sweep of Crescent School

(May 10th) – The Varsity Badminton team hit the road today to take on local rivals Crescent School. The doubles matches were quite one sided in favour of UCC, but the singles matches were tighter, with the Blues needing some time to adjust to the different gym conditions and new opponents before hitting their stride. In the end, UCC would sweep all flights for a strong team win. With a 5-2 season record, the squad Read More

Varsity Badminton earns convincing win in RSGC rematch

(May 8th) – The Varsity Badminton team had today’s rematch against Royal St. George’s circled on the calendar for several weeks now, and sure enough, it lived up to the expected hype. Both teams fielded full line-ups, and all matches were tightly contested, with 3 of 5 going the maximum three games. Certainly the intensity was reminiscent of late round play at a CISAA Championship Tournament, with players on both sides battling hard and riding Read More

Varsity Badminton Posts Good Win Over Rival St. Mike’s

(May 5th) – With the unrelenting rain continuing to pour down, as it had been all day, the Lett Gym was the best place to be at 3:45 pm on UCC’s inaugural ‘Varsity Day’. After a significant layoff from game play, the Varsity Badminton team returned to action against St. Michael’s College, and earned a convincing 4-1 team win. It was great to have all of the IB2s back on the court, after having gone Read More

Varsity Badminton Sweeps Crestwood

(April 24th) – For the first time in school history, the Varsity Badminton team played Crestwood Preparatory College. Unfortunately, Crestwood was missing players (resulting in two match defaults) and the remaining games were largely one-sided in favour of UCC, which was a bit anti-climactic. However, the squad gained confidence and everyone was able to play competitive matches. The team is .500 at the midpoint of the season and does not play again until Friday, May Read More

Varsity Badminton beaten by talented St. Andrew's side

(Apr 22nd) – With SAC’s 1st and 2nd singles players competing at the Ontario Badminton Championship, and UCC missing some key players who were in Philadelphia with the Senior Jazz Band, both teams had to call on their reserves for today’s fixture. The 1st doubles match-up proved to be highly entertaining, as Emilio Elia and Nicholas Adolphe pushed their talented Andrean opponents to the maximum three games before bowing out. Robert Peri, Luka Chu and Read More

Varsity Badminton Posts Big 3-2 Win Against Trinity College

(April 19th) – The Varsity Badminton team travelled to Port Hope this afternoon and got a good first hand look at the construction taking place at Trinity College School’s new 40,000 square foot athletic facility, that will feature three “double gyms”, with one being designated for exclusive use by Varsity teams. Trinity has earmarked badminton to be a signature sport in its athletics program, as it seeks to host OFSAA Badminton in the near future Read More

Varsity Badminton Drops Season Opener in Tight Match vs RSGC

(April 18th) – The Varsity team played its first match of the year today at Royal St. George’s, where the home side was quick to show the visitors from UCC why they had won the U16 CISAA Championship last season. The Georgian squad was largely composed of Grade 10 and 11 students, who played with considerable confidence and energy on their home court. After some shaky play at the beginning, the UCC team gradually got Read More
